Saying:
'We've got you!'

Belly blessings, otherwise known as Blessingways, date back to ancient Navajo tribes.

A modern ceremony based on an ancient tradition.

Unlike baby showers, a Blessingway is all about support, love and honour for the Mum to be. Those gathered for this ceremony are your closest friends and family. It is a calming, yet empowering ceremony, acknowledging how strong and wonderful your body is, celebrating the wonders of your body  fulfilling its core purpose.  There are so many beautiful things that can be included within a belly blessing ceremony that I can advise you on. From simple connecting thread action, to circle of flowers, right through to belly decorating. This is about you and your journey of motherhood. One size does not fit all! So please feel free to ask about other ideas. While there are many I can help with, there are some that will require other experts to be able to deliver parts. Henna belly designs are one of those that would require an expert.

Blessingways are more than just a ceremony!

They are an outpouring of love and energy that connects the Mum to be to the circle of support that is in all women.

The circle

From simple gatherings in your home, to planned events at a special location. Where ever you chose, your circle of friends will be the same. Those that support and love you will gladly gather for you.

There are benefits and issues for all venues. At your home, maybe you would feel the pressure to clean and host, but you would be very relaxed.

At a park, you would feel connected with nature, but could have strangers wandering by.

What really matters is that you are somewhere that you feel connected, to your circle of woman, to nature, to you!

A blessingway is all about you and the feminine goddess within.

Pampering

Traditionally held in the weeks prior to due date, the Blessingway is about giving you the strength, the confidence and the energy for birth. The actions of having your hair combed, your feet washed and food baked and brought by your guests, is all to encourage your body and mind to rest and gain strength for the coming weeks ahead.

It is about sharing your worries and hearing from others how much love and strengths they see in you. It is allowing yourself to believe in the miracle that is within you, and gaining strength from the knowledge that the body of a woman, has all it needs to sustain a new life, as well as the power to deliver that life.

What is involved,

A Blessingway is a woman centered celebration, it is recognising the strength, beauty, womanhood and metamorphosis as she goes through the process of bringing a new life into this world.

It is a true celebration of the mother to be, preparing her emotionally and spiritually through the combined strength, support and love of those women around her.

Some traditional rituals are washing her feet, combing her hair, as well as telling her the strengths and attributes they see in her, as well as sharing stories, readings, poems or prayers.

Other options can include meditation, bells, singing bowls and candle lighting. Creating a birthing necklace or thread bracelets give the mum to be something to focus on during her labour.

Simply put, it can include as little or as much as you wish. You can have traditional elements or modern, maybe even a bit of both.

Who do you want involved.

Traditionally a Blessingway is the gathering of women only, for some the being surrounded by women only makes for a very powerful experience. Some prefer the ceremony to include the dad to be too. If you have other children, you may want them to be there too, after all this new baby is their family too. There is no right or wrong answer.

Some choose to embrace the  woman only circle ceremony followed by the men and children joining them for a feast or even a move to a more modern baby shower tradition of gifts.

The options are endless, together we will find the right mix for you and your Blessingway.
