Coming of age
Sweet 16's , 18th , 21st birthday. These are major milestones in our lives. Tribes have always had ceremonies at special ages for their young. It marks their journey to adulthood.
Today, we have parties, but if you would like to celebrate it in a way that recognises their journey so far, bestow wisdom and support for the next part of it, then these ceremonies are a modern take on this traditional ritual.
Release Ceremony
Break ups are hard. From an amicable separation, to a bitter divorce, they are an extremely emotional time. Channelling that emotion into an intentional release can give you the finality that is often hard to find. This can be a simple ceremony for you, or a gathering of your closest family and friends. Focusing on an interactive ceremony with support surrounding you, can help you move forward.
Rebirth/Transition
"Coming out" , "Transitioning" are the labels set by society, yet these labels actually suspend the individual within the tag. We should all have the right to walk into a room, whether it is friends or family, and say "Hi, this is the person I Love".
For now though, people young and old, have to go through the deeply emotionally terrifying experience of telling people. Once that is done, they finally are free to be, act and love whoever they wish. It truly is a rebirth into the person they always should have been.
The same can be said for those that have to explain that they are not in the right body, before having to go through several years of jumping through hoops to finally be in the body they feel they belong in.
A ceremony that says goodbye to the past self and embraces their life as who they are now, can be healing, not just for them but their family and friends too.
Symbolic actions can also be included within the ceremony.
Family Unity Ceremony
Joining two families can be hard. Two different houses, families, rules and beliefs. We have all seen the media aimed at the wicked step family Even as a child Cinderella shows us that step parents are horrible. With that in their minds, it is no surprise that children will find it hard to adapt. Add in the different house rules, new children that are now family - it can be scary.
But when it works, it can be magical. They embrace new playmates and they love having so many people around to support, help and encourage them.
A family unity ceremony is a way to allow each child to be seen as part of the combined family. Each parent can commit and make promises, that are relevant to each individual. In return, each child, age depending, can make their feelings and promises to the other children and/or the adults. There are also several options for symbolic actions that can be incorporated.
This can be a full stand alone ceremony, or a simplified version can be included within a couples ceremony.
Ashes ceremony
With the popularity of non attended cremations, the scattering/burying of the ashes is the preferred time for a ceremony. Unlike a funeral, it does not have to take place in a crematorium or place of worship.
Instead, it can be anywhere, and can become a bright, fun celebration of their life.
Pet Ceremonies
Pets are our family and invariably have a big part of our hearts. Losing a pet is one of the hardest things we go through. For children, it is often the first experience of losing a loved one. Having a ceremony celebrating the joy they brought, whilst also saying goodbye, is a process that can help with the loss. As with all my ceremonies, it will be unique to your pet.
Holistic based Ceremonies
These can be a stand alone ceremony, or can be included within any other ceremony.
Energy clearance.
Using Sage singing bowls and gongs, a simple clearing ceremony is a beautiful way to create a safe and healing space for you and your family. Often performed when moving home, it is also popular after a relationship ending.
